Steps (painting as shoes, shoes as painting) | 2018

These paintings are a part of a series of polystyrene paintings on the topic of „imprints“. The subtitle of the work are shoes as a painting, paintings as shoes. I do not always make paintings with a clear image of the result, seeing the dominant aspect of it. Will the PAINTING or the SHOE triumph? I would like to let the viewer decide what to think. The summarizing title is „Imprint.“ The imprint I put into polystyrene may be my mark in life. I realized in the end that choosing a certain material reflects the person’s relationship to life. This struggle containted in the creative process reslembles life itself. A person may never know what meets him in his journey, what can influence him. No person ever knows, where the situation may be heading. He can try to steer or control it in some way, but cannot think it all through. Polystyrene evokes the fragility of life, its tendency to be breached and broken. The influence of a solvent on the material is the same as making life choices – both processes are irreversible. Shoes are a substitute symbol which to me is very characteristic for depicting one‘s life journey.
