Sum up the main character of your work, your long-term interests and themes.
My approach to work could be sumarized as a reflection of common experiences and searching for a consensus with historic authors. I depict common themes in basic things. (eg. shoes as a life journey, food showing the character of a person etc.)
Using different materials as well as adding touch, sound and light to my paintings I erase barriers between different art genres
Describe the context of your work – what are your inspirational sources and theoretical starting points, which artists and tendencies do you consider as referential to your work.
I draw the most inspiration for my work from Vincent van Gogh. His work fascinates me for its focus on common life themes and for capturing the moment and its pure emotion. The truth hidden in an immediate expression. Capturing an object „here and now“ is the moment which interests me and feels authethic to me.
I also get inspired by the sixties and eighties when it was common to try different materials and deep meanings often were depicted using common topics.
Try to characterize what makes your work specific, wherein lies its force, what makes it different from the work of artists with similar approaches and themes.
I try using all the options the painting can provide and reaching as far as the material can lead me. My paintings often extend into space or depth, I also work with empty space and light. Doing so I offer a new look at perspective in painting and I try to enrich the debate concerning the limits of (a) painting. However, I do not prefer the form in my work. The form helps me conveying a concrete theme or an idea. The concrete idea desires a specific material, the material awakens a concrete idea. In conclusion, the working proces is not only about seeking the limits of a material but also searching for the limits of a theme/topic.
What is your work process like? Do you deal with preparation and research? How do you search for your themes? How do you choose the media you work in?
My work begins with a material which inspires me further or makes me create a concrete thing connected to it. The creative proces is an important aspect of my endeavor. Fellings I experience working with the material transform into my creative struggle. Coming in terms with specific attributes and structure is a great challenge to me and it forces me to adjust and limit my goals leading to gradual reduction and schematization.
I often enter the process spontaneously when I get drawn by contemporary materials then I seek a personal theme or a feeling fitting them. That can be said for my master’s work Footprints (Shoes as a Painting, Painting as Shoes) which was the result of a semester spent in Wroclaw.
Speaking of themes I let myself get inspired by the place (site specific painting, e.g. landscape painting) or things which relate to a person, his personal needs and desires. In common daily use things I spot symbols through which I reach a deeper meaning. I am not interested in the concrete depiction of a thing, but the thought it represents.
What is your vision for the future? How do you want to develop your work and continue your previous projects/realizations? What is your long-term goal/dream?
I would like to continue working on common themes/topics, try new abilities of materials and greater extend my paintings into space. To use the material in harmony with its purpose. My focus will be especially in polystyrene and uncovering its further potential.
