Suprematist spanking is a series of objects. The work parallels Malevich's suprematist crosses, which are modernist versions of Orthodox icons. My work is based on the secularization of these altars, celebrating the premature victory of modernism, by turning Malevich's crosses into ones helping to keep the stability of the frame. Here, colour was replaced by a third dimension – the depth of the wooden planks. The darker the colour shade is, the thicker the plank is, because colour is the third dimension in the picture. I looked up Malevich's compositions depicting the theme of a cross and transformed them into different shades of grey. I used a graphic program to establish the intensity of each area in the picture, and thus determined the depth of the corresponding plank.
