Photographic observation of substances changing their physical state and shape resulted in pictures that challenge the unambiguity and materiality of presented entities. Here, the black colour is not a logical consequence of the lack of light - it appears in a substantial, meaningful, material way. It is a dynamic force in its role of an active carrier of contamination. The title birthmark arises from oblivion, setting its shape and self-defining precisely in geometric borders. It is, however, only a starting point because as if not being able to exist in a peaceful and symbiotic relation with light, the birthmark begins to carry on playing with it. This element, once brought into existence, turned out to be autonomous in the process of further destruction. The series consists of photos and lightboxes. Lightboxes, pulsating with light, reveal hidden aspects of the picture or bring the picture out from darkness.
