Virgin Mary of Slovakia Protector | 2008

Slovakia has a very strong Christian tradition, which affects the society and culture, and the Marussiac 'Virgin Mary of Slovakia Protector' artwork aims to evoke these beliefs. The Marussiac Virgin Mary of Slovakia Protector artwork is based on a simple concept: Is the Virgin Mary Slovakia's protector? The main idea of this artwork was first simulated using 3D computer equipment in the artist's apartment. The resulted artwork shows sculptures of the Virgin Mary drawn out to make the European borders of Slovakia. Marussiac aims to make a political statement with this outline. He also tries to symbolize the religious beliefs of the culture through outlining Slovakia with tiny Virgin Marys. Always intriguing, this artwork by Marussiac is stunning and makes viewers think about the beliefs and political systems of Slovakia.
