    Sphere 12/16 | 2010

Sphäere 12/16 is a 300kg double-walled steel ball skeleton with an outer diameter of 1,80m, welded from approx. 1000 single pieces of construction steel, its inside covered with chicken mesh, equipped with 48 electronic square wave sound generators and 48 small loudspeakers. It is a music instrument which can be played from inside. For opening and closing the upper hemisphere, a hydraulic cylinder and a pump are installed. The sphere can be used either in a static position or while rolling. At first, the object is a silently standing sculpture. It is self-containing and closed. It appears to foreshadow the possibility for a purpose. It suggests function, but keeps it as a secret. After that, there will be chaos: with a human being inside, the sphere creates noise and sound, and even rolls.
