“End to End”, “from one end to the other” its literal translation, sets the bases for a link between past and present, beginning and end. The beginning can be read between the pages of the book “The Gods Themselves” of Isaac Asimov, that has allowed the artist to reflect on the concept of language, understood as an alphabetical code: a structure of orderly signs, destined to build a communication among different people. The one put in place by Cardarelli has been a meticulous work, a constant virtual clipping, where what might appear like a discard, assumes the semblances of an essential element that individualizes in the precision and in the strictness the oneness of this work. End to End has been introduced in his design phase inside a study of artist, composing itself of a video projection, an audio track and four sculpture sessions. On the wall have been projected, one after another, the twenty-six black letters on white background, drawn by hand by the artist (and subsequently reproposed in digital format), while the public was invited to take part in it, like it was inside a movie theater. The sessions, realized in wood, draw on in the form the details of the structure of four letters and, set on the ground, they create a sort of landscape out of the time, a connection “from one end to the other” of the screen. The lines of the letters that appeared on the wall, changed form producing other letters, the fruit always of the previous one, but never equal and, like in a game of mirrors, the spectator entered with the look, but also with the body, looking for of position himself inside it, through the sessions. Touch and sight arent’t the only to have involved, but also the hearing, that is recalled by the sound produced by the conversion of the design in audio through a software, that allows to perceive more and more this particular alphabet as a needy code to be deciphered. It is so, that the title “End to End”, assumes also an expression cryptographic, the encrypted communication system, in which only the people that are communicating can read the messages, excluding a possible third party. In a historical moment like the present, in which the art needs to be also language, the work of Francesco Cardarelli becomes a precious tool in the hands of the public, able to reactivate a spontaneous gesture of sharing over that of writing, done in this case of functions and symbols. The letter, becoming sculptural form, becomes subject, assumes a real physical weight and becomes almost impossible not to see and listen it. It is so that, if the art itself is an alphabet to decipher, the work of Francesco Cardarelli is one of those possible; a new artistic language, on which to introduce new forms and ideas. / End to End, “da un capo all’altro” la sua traduzione letterale, pone le basi per un collegamento tra passato e presente, inizio e fine. L’inizio può essere letto tra le pagine del libro “Neanche gli dei” di Isaac Asimov che ha permesso all’artista di riflettere sul concetto di linguaggio, inteso come un codice alfabetico: una struttura di segni ordinati destinati a costruire una comunicazione tra popoli diversi. Quello messo in atto da Cardarelli è stato un lavoro meticoloso, un ritaglio virtuale costante dove ciò che potrebbe apparire come uno scarto assume invece le sembianze di un elemento fondante che individua nella precisione e nel rigore l’unicità di questo lavoro. End to End è stato presentato nella sua fase progettuale all’interno di uno studio d’artista componendosi di una proiezione video, una traccia audio e quattro sculture/sedute. Sulla parete sono state proiettate, una di seguito all’altra, le ventisei lettere nere su fondo bianco disegnate a mano dall’artista (e successivamente riproposte in formato digitale) mentre il pubblico era invitato a prenderne parte come se fosse all’interno di sala cinematografica. Le sedute, realizzate in legno, riprendono nella forma i dettagli della struttura di quattro lettere e, poste a terra, creano una sorta di paesaggio fuori dal tempo, una connessione da “un capo all’altro” dello schermo. I tratti delle lettere che apparivano a parete cambiavano forma generando altre lettere, figlie sempre di quella precedente ma mai uguali e, come in un gioco di specchi, lo spettatore entrava con lo sguardo ma anche con il corpo cercando di posizionarcisi all’interno, mediante le sedute. Non sono solo il tatto e la vista ad essere coinvolti ma anche l’udito, che viene richiamato dal suono generato dalla conversione del disegno in audio, mediante un software che lascia percepire quell’alfabeto come un codice sempre più bisognoso di essere decifrato. E’ così che il titolo, End to End, assume anche una veste crittografica, il sistema di comunicazione cifrata nel quale solo le persone che stanno comunicando possono leggere i messaggi escludendo un eventuale terzo. In un momento storico come quello attuale, in cui l’arte necessita di essere anche linguaggio, il lavoro di Francesco Cardarelli diventa uno strumento prezioso nelle mani del pubblico, in grado di riattivare un gesto spontaneo di condivisione oltre che di scrittura, fatta in questo caso di funzioni e simboli. La lettera diventando forma scultorea si fa materia, assume un vero e proprio peso fisico e diventa quasi impossibile non vederla, non ascoltarla. E’ così che, se l’arte stessa è un alfabeto da decifrare, quello di Francesco Cardarelli è uno di quelli possibili; un nuovo linguaggio artistico sul quale innestare nuove forme e idee.
