BIOGRAPHY

To reflect on the use of the modernist vocabulary by Tomáš Bárta is not possible without the knowledge of his long field survey of urban landscapes, their dominant structures and obscure edges and gaps. He is predominantly an observer, abstracting his own visual experience. However his approach is in principle very classical: Bárta deletes specific coordinates to create webs or platforms, a kind of sticky fly-paper that captures insects of our visual memories, gained through experience with the visual arts and our movements through the environment. In clearly apportioned paintings with robust motifs we get involved with the structural possibilities of a matter laid on the background. When we view the drawings it is mainly a rich network of interlacing lines. On both we easily notice that the territory, that Bárta defines, is enclosed, symbolically speaking, by the two buildings of Bauhaus, the Weimar one, and the retail one.
