ARTIST STATEMENT

I am currently working on series' of grouped-paintings surrounding subjects such as global warming and sea-level rise, the planet Venus, avian courtship rituals, urbanity, utopia, consumerism and absurd yoga poses.

The paintings hold a mirror up to contemporary human activity, exploring the world through varied collated source material grouped together like stolen stills from films. They consider our 'developed' vs primitive identities through our present relationship with the natural world as well as with each other. Religion and mythology are also key subjects.

Previous works have explored the limited sky view in the city as a metaphor for man's conflictive relationship with nature. With a specific interest in architectural imagery and the story of nature within the history of art, the work has often reflected upon historic milestones in these respective areas, such as the advent of the 'real sky' in painting - and the 'loss' of metaphorical alternatives - as well as the tailoring of man-made environments to a point far removed from their original savage origins.
