ARTIST STATEMENT

Drawing on interpretations of spaces in which we live, my work tackles the way we recognise the significance of place. I explore how people and space interact and create a place, thereby demonstrating how places reflect a variety of occurrences. I aim to reconstruct places by capturing the experience of surroundings with the visual evidence of time, or by altering them into a form of image that speculates on the situations depicted. Using an approach of accumulation and flattening, I employ reiterative descriptions of people and objects taken from an observed place, which convey all the happenings of the place within a certain period of time, and eventually create a scene.

Situated within an extended language of print-based process, my practice encompasses drawing, print, painting and installation. I expand the printing methods incorporated into the multilayered surface using wire and the framework of drawing to rebuild the selected scene. The overlapping surfaces and lines in the work allow the spectator to develop their interpretations from individual perspectives.
