ARTIST STATEMENT

Since I am a child the possibilities and theme of escape have intrigued me. Seeking, exploring and escaping are themes I develop when creating an archive of visual perceptions. Through my painting I establish a found and gathered vocabulary for a body of work, often in response to a place. I incorporate imperfections in my hand-drawn lines and the slippage of paint over the border. Jarring colors and harsh angles take a backstage to blues, greens, and earthy colors. Geometry becomes a different kind of nature, repeating one image in many variations or forms. At its basis, escape involves forgetting the known.
