ARTIST STATEMENT

in the course of being a nomadic artist,
i have wandered throughout the landscape in diverse surroundings,
constantly inspired by the natural world that surrounds us all.

since moving to the southern alps two summers ago,
we began wandering around our new woodland home,
overwhelmed with the vibrancy and variety of flowers growing here.
some were common varieties i recognized from home.
others were entirely new creatures i wanted to learn more about.
as i was reminded of medieval europeans
depicting these plants in their imagery,
i longed to paint them myself, learning more about each.

entranced while painting succulent blooms
during investigations of the botanical world,
i have become thirsty for a metamorphosis.

after some enchanting conversations with butterflies,
i've become fascinated to capture these magical creatures alight,
as pollinators are the true alchemists in the garden.
so my work has expanded to include these creatures of flight;
i intend to learn from them more, perhaps becoming friends even.
