ARTIST STATEMENT

Having experience as an architect has an important roll on the way I approach my work.

I have been trying to problematize some key elements on the edification of buildings into my work inside the studio and gallery space.

Working across ceramics, installation and site-specific interventions, I try to address issues related to traditional crafts, architecture and monochromatic tile works.

I am particularly interested in the production of objects and their ornamental, sociological functions.

Through a process of research and observation , I choose architectural elements that may be structural, decorative, functional, the buildings volumetrics or even the planning or mapping of an area , which then translate to an apparently narrow lexicon of forms and shapes.

What I am currently working now is  an installation of a group of large ceramic sculptures evoking the relation and tension between architectural body masses.

Although simple in shape, these sculptures built in earthenware and glazed with an uneven black, glossy and matte glaze, have a rifled and rugged surface treatment that try to bring new layers and possible readings to such minimal works.
