ARTIST STATEMENT

I make work with a strong performative element that is presented in video, sound, installation and live performance.

My works are often documents of choreographed and repetitive exercises between individuals and groups of people. Exploring boundaries of communication , power and negotiation between participants/performers is one of my primary interests, and as such I sometimes engage with close family members, specific groups or audiences. Themes of indeterminacy, deconstruction, and ritual recur in my work, which has expanded from intimate performance to camera works to more recent large scale public performances with several participants or performers.

I am interested in personal and collective actions that work to create contemporary forms of ritual. In structuring my performative interventions I use the structure and parameters of games and experiments. I engage performers and participants with a sense of play into sometimes absurd, poetic or transformative actions, which most often are a response to specific place and site.
