“Klára
Petra Szabó practices the lifestyle of the contemporary travelling artist as
professionally as she practices watercolour painting. This lifestyle, which
includes moving from one resident program to the other, is intimately connected
to her thematic and stylistic interests.
Szabó Klára Petra looks for interoperability in whatever she does: she is
continuously experimenting with the suitability for artistic use of various
materials, while also exploring the possible ways of ’intermedializing’
traditional watercolour techniques. This is what made her include the unique
possibilities offered by thermo- paints, which become transparent with heat, into
her works, and this led her to watercolour- animation as well. Although she
often includes the internet and other electronic media in her projects, her
whole oeuvre is characterized by a kind of cosy intimacy. Her choice of subject
matter is exceedingly personal and her models are usually her close friends,
relatives, acquaintances, or even herself. She is most interested in the
body: the „medium” that simultaneously
talks about identity, social status and cultural situation. This is precisely
why she became interested in the relationship between personal identity and
fashion, and this made her „reveal” her own body (and existence) as a
meaningful object in her works in a self-examining manner."
