ARTIST STATEMENT

Vo svojej tvorbe sa venujem osobným témam ženy, formovaniu identity a s ním súvisiacimi otázkami telesného vzhľadu späté s vyrovnávaním sa s osobnými problémami, čo je výrazne podmienené aj spoločenskými a kultúrnymi aspektmi. Na túto tému ženskej subjektivity reagujem skrz  vlastný ženský autorský subjekt s intímnym uhlom pohľadu. Hľadám rozmanité možnosti ako reagovať na mnohé z podnetov vzťahujúcich sa na túto širokú sféru. Skúmam ženu v súkromí jej domáceho prostredia, kde sa venuje sebe a svojim skrášľovacím rituálom. Vo svojich obrazoch sa snažím preniknúť do vnútorných pocitov žien skrz figúru a zobrazujem ju v momentoch ženskej intimity, čím chcem poukázať na prirodzenú ženskú krásu. Odhaľujem to, čo všetky ženy skrývajú. Zaoberám sa teda otázkami krásy. V súčasnosti sme z každej strany obklopovaní vykonštruovaným ideálom krásy, ktorý nám je predkladaný reklamou, časopismi, filmom, internetom. Nachádzame sa v dobe, ktorá je priam posadnutá kultom dokonalého tela. Telesný vzhľad začal byť stotožňovaný s našou identitou, so subjektivitou človeka. Súčasnou spoločnosťou je zadávaný ťažko dosiahnuteľný ideál krásy a požiadavky, ktoré sú kladené na telesný vzhľad ženy, majú negatívne vplyvy na jej postoj k sebe samej. Keďže sú tieto požiadavky vysoké, ženy sú odsúdené na nekonečnú túžbu po „dokonalej“ postave. Trpia nedostatkom sebadôvery, ktorá je spôsobená strachom z priberania, strachom zo starnutia a neustálym sebaporovnávaním. V modernej spoločnosti je krása príliš idealizovaná. Na figurálnych maľbách zobrazujem ženské problematické partie. Mojim zámerom je konfrontovať diváka s prirodzenosťou ženského tela, poukazujem tak na jeho krásu, čo sa snažím docieliť aj pomocou pestrej palety farieb.

In my work I deal with women's personal issues, identity formation and related issues of physical appearance associated with coping with personal problems, which is significantly influenced by social and cultural aspects. I respond to this topic of female subjectivity through my own female authorial subject with an intimate point of view. I am looking for various ways to respond to many of the stimuli related to this broad sphere. I examine a woman in the privacy of her home, where she takes care of herself and practices beauty rituals. In my paintings, I try to break through the inner feelings of women I am painting her in moments of female intimacy, by which I want to point out the natural female beauty. I show what all women are hiding. So I deal with beauty issues. Nowadays, we are surrounded by a contrived ideal of beauty, which is presented to us by advertising, magazines, film, the Internet. This time is directly obsessed with the cult of the perfect body. Physical appearance began to be identified with our identity, with the subjectivity of man. The ideal of the beauty of today´s society is difficult to achieve. High demands are placed on a woman´s physical appearance, which have a negative effect on her attitude towards herself. Women are thus doomen to an endless desire for a "perfect" figure. They suffer from a lack of self- confidence, which is caused by the fear of gaining weight, the fear of aging and constant self- comparison. In modern society is beauty too idealized. In the figural paintings, I reflect women´s problematic parts. My intention is to confront the viewer with the nature of the female body, so I point out its beauty, which I try to achieve with a variety of colors.

MOJE INŠPIRAČNÉ ZDROJE

Moja práca sa prirodzene odvíja od mojich osobných vnemov ako aj zážitkov v úzkom kruhu spolunažívania so ženami, ktoré sa stali moju inšpiráciou.  Keďže už približne osem rokov žijem v ženských kolektívoch, mám možnosť ich pozorovať vo svojom prirodzenom prostredí. Každodenne prejavujú svoju nespokojnosť, úzkosť alebo depresiu pri dívaní sa na odraz svojho tela v zrkadle. V úzkom kruhu priateliek sú ženy k sebe veľmi otvorené a delia sa o svoje pocity, traumy, ktoré sa najčastejšie týkajú práve ich vzhľadu, hmotnosti, postavy, telesných proporcií. Nevedia sa prijať a stotožniť samé so sebou, pretože ich vnímanie je ovplyvňované postavami žien z reklám, časopisov a médií. Síce médiá ženskú túžbu po kráse nevytvárajú, výrazne ovplyvňujú vnímanie žien tým, že ju interpretujú a zvyšujú jej intenzitu. V priebehu dvadsiateho storočia získala ženská tlač nad ženami obrovskú moc. Rozšíril sa vysoký záujem o módu, skrášľovacie výrobky a výrazne prispela k tomu, že sa z telesného vzhľadu stala kľúčová dimenzia ženskej identity. Teoretickým východiskom pre moju tvorbu sa stala hlavne feministická literatúra ako napr. Mýtus krásy od N. Wolf, ale hlavne umelecká tvorba autoriek, ktoré sa zaoberajú maľbou ženskej figúry a vyjadrujú siný pohľad na ponímanie ženského tela a problémy s ním spojené. Ako Joan Semmel, ktorej obrazy sú reakciou na idealizáciu ženského tela v histórii umenia ako aj dnešnej spoločnosti, autorka nás vyzýva, aby sme sa zamysleli o našom vlastnom postoji k ľudskej forme a zapojili vedomie pred kritickým myslením. Ďalej Jenny Saville, Clarity Haynes či Mária Machatová, ktorá sa témou ženskej intimity zaoberá v cykle malieb Kúpeľ, kde zobrazuje hlavne seba samú a v cykle Intimita, kde zobrazuje hlavne svoju sestru pri vyzliekaní, či česaní vlasov.

My work naturally derives from my personal sensations as well as experiences in a close circle of coexistence with women who have become my inspiration. I have been living in women's groups for eight years now, I have the opportunity to observe them in their natural space. They show their dissatisfaction, anxiety or depression every day when they look at the reflection of their body in the mirror. In a close company of girlfriends, women are very open to each other and share their feelings, traumas, which most often relate to their appearance, weight, figure, body proportions. They cannot accept and identify with themselves because their perception is influenced by the figures of women from advertisements, magazines and the media. Although the media do not create a woman's desire for beauty, they significantly influence the perception of women by interpreting it and increasing its intensity. During the twentieth century, the women's press gained enormous power over women. The high interest in fashion, beauty products has spread and it has significantly contributed to the fact that physical appearance has become a key dimension of female identity. The theoretical basis for my work has become mainly feminist literature such as. The Myth of Beauty by N. Wolf, but mainly the artistic work of the authors, who deal with the painting of the female figure and express a strong view of the understanding of the female body and the problems associated with it. Like Joan Semmel, whose paintings are a reaction to the idealization of the female body in the history of art as well as today's society, the author invites us to reflect on our own attitude to human form and engage consciousness before critical thinking. Further, Jenny Saville, Clarity Haynes and Mária Machatová, who deals with the topic of female intimacy in the cycle of paintings Bath, where she depicts herself, and in the cycle Intimacy, where she depicts her sister undressing or combing her hair.

 

 

 

BIOGRAPHY

Katarína Magdiaková (*1997) je maliarka. Absolvovala Bc. stupeň štúdia na Akadémii umení v Banskej Bystrici, kde navštevovala ateliér Klasických maliarskych disciplín pod vedením prof. Ľudovíta Hološku, akad. mal. V súčasnosti pokračuje na Akadémii umení v štúdiu Voľného výtvarného umenia na Mgr. stupni štúdia. Jej hlavným autorským záujmom je figurálna maľba. Vo svojej tvorbe reflektuje problematiku telesnosti a ideálu krásy. Jej hlavným vyjadrovacím jazykom je maľba.

Katarina Magdiakova (*1997) is an painter. She graduated from Bc. degree of study at the Academy of Arts in Banska Bystrica, where she attended the studio of Classical Painting Disciplines under the guidance of prof. Ľudovít Hološka, acad. mal. She is currently continuing her studies of Free Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts at Mgr. degree of study. Her main authorial interest is figural painting. In her work, she reflects on the issue of bodyness and the ideal of beauty. Her main language of expression is painting.
