ARTIST STATEMENT


Denisa Krausová's work is well-known as autobiographic and narrative. Her paintings full of general stories and personal experiences use the collage form and combine painting with fine drawing in an original way. This results in paintings whose area is active and pulses with various focusses. Its this story-telling style and multitude of elements that challenges the author to balance on the verge of illustration.

The most recent paintings exhibit an increase of the distance from this border. At first sight, the formal characteristics remain the same but the increasingly large area of paintings is clarified towards more compact regions, the shape complexity is reduced and the narration becomes more concentrated. Denisa seems to have lost part of her Márquez style complicated verbosity while preserving her magic realism. The autobiographic element is included indirectly in references to other authors' work that impressed her, and in the traces of objects that define her living space, her home.

Denisa Krausová stays at home by choosing the traditional topics of landscape and especially still life. However, we cannot simply classify her paintings in any of these categories. It is not uncommon that landscape topics grow through still life and the real landscape is transformed in a mental landscape.
