ARTIST PROFILE

Daniela Baráčková

  • Czech Republic (b. 1981 in Boskovice)
  • Currently in Prague, Czech Republic.
  • I work with specific events and experiences that I expose in generally familiar contexts and relate to more abstract problems. I choose the method and process according to the situation – video, installation, painting, photography and performance.

ARTIST STATEMENT

In her projects Daniela Baráčková deals with specific problems from her surroundings ranging from personal themes, to family matters, to universal and timeless questions. Her energetic gestures disarm with their sincerity. Conciseness of expression is an effective manifestation of personal engagedness, a bold proclamation of resoluteness and responsibility of the individual to herself, her loved ones and the world. Despite all concreteness of expression, her thematic cycles of paintings, her video performances and long-term projects possess a high degrese of abstraction.

Text from the catalog The Beginning of the Century – Czech Art in the First Decade of the 21. Century, Pavlína Morganová (ed.), 2012

Work of Daniela Baráčková is carefully thought through and yet spontaneous. Her pictures feature naive, even surreal morphologies. Her videos are moving tableaux, reconstructions of internal memory, while her models and installations enter into a dialogue with the viewer. Her work is a compact, sometimes almost hermetically sealed whole that, nevertheless, evokes a series of personal associations through its honesty.

She regards all of her exhibitions as a compact work, from the surface of the walls to the internal structure of the installations. One work offers a key to reading its other parts, and vice versa. In Baráčková’s hands, situations involving the retelling of a personally experienced story and the ensuing new reality are constructional elements of a work that is layered visually and in terms of content.

Lapidárnost vyjádření je účinným prostředkem manifestace osobní angažovanosti, nebojácným provoláním pevnosti a zodpovědnosti jedince sama k sobě, svým blízkým i světu. Přes veškerou konkrétnost vyjádření obsahují její malířské cykly, video performance a dlouhodobé projekty vysokou míru abstrakce.
