ARTIST PROFILE

Barbora Kachlíková

  • Czech Republic (b. 1988 in Vyškov)
  • Currently in Ratula, Finland.
  • When I get up, I think of painting. It is difficult to do a good painting. I hold my breath and bite my lips, because I know, that one brush stroke means good or failure. It is a Squid Game. You must continue.

ARTIST STATEMENT

When I paint, I have to be bonded with the place I live.

Art and life are not possible to separate.

I need to experience the place to transform it into paintings.

My favorite morning routine before going to the studio is to have a street food breakfast with locals from India or Malaysia through Youtube. People publish amazing morning foodies videos. Also from temples. I love it!! It always kicks me for a great day. Those colors and how people enjoy great food are divine!

I live in a small place in the rural area of Finland. Our house used to be a farmer's house and that's why you can find here lots of technical suppliers for repairing almost everything in the world. Except for these, you can find plenty of trashy stuff, mainly placed inside a big barn and surrounding outside area. I like harmony and cleanliness. The broken cars, soaking and dissolving oils into beton floor, and trash burned in rusty barrels by the hillbilly brother of my partner, made me depressed. One day, during the walk to the composter, with bio garbage, I noticed that this trashy stuff has its unique beauty. Suddenly I felt that they wanted to be painted! So I started to paint them in the AutoMoto series and now I feel very happy about all this crappy stuff!
I feel that I found an authentic source of inspiration as an artist, who cannot repair a car but can fantasize about it. My artwork is maintained in a studio, in the barn, and within a garden.

My inspiration comes from everyday life and situations. I don't need to find themes. They're looking for me. The change of place is crucial to me. This increases my sensitivity to my surroundings. My perception of world is fundamentally influenced by the works Richard Serra, Anne Imhof, Marika Mäkelä, Nina Roos, Peter Doig, Raisa and Misha, Liu Xiadong, Xinyi Cheng, Karl Hörst Hödicke, Carolyne Walker, Anselm Kiefer, Freya Hoffmeister, and Shaman of Wanniang family.

I have a clear plan for the near future - I develop the AutoMoto series to 3D painting installation series “A Good Boy From Copenhagen”.( refers to my artist friends with Lasse Mouritzen and our shared passion for urban places that are out of control).

In my vision, I see a large-scale abstract oil painting installation of shapes drawn from old collapsing wooden barns from our neighborhood, accompanied by rusty burning barrels and steaming diffusers on an area of 50m².

The installation takes us to the visual world of the construction building area I encountered during my summer job in Imatra in 2017. For the first time, I need to plan my work, design it by cardboard models and mantle it together from the parts. (45 oil paintings on canvases will be in sizes from 20cm x 20 cm to 200 cm x 100 cm and adjusted together by wooden construction). The color palette of Siena, Umbra, Cadmium, and Ocre, Payne's grey and Lampblack, respond to pigments when digging the earth for houses, curry nets, concrete steel mats, rough construction, battens, load-bearing walls, support columns, and basement stones.

I implement experiences I gained during an artist residency in Germany in 2016 when I worked on the abstract oil painting series “ I Wish This Would be Your Color” inspired by the corporate environment of Stuttgart.

The significant knowledge, inspiration, and guidance I seek from the work of Richard Serra.

My dream is to take part in a glass workshop. I still have to think about tribal people from Papua New Guinea, who live today as in prehistory.
