ARTIST STATEMENT

I experiment with implicit and explicit ways of expression, the expressible and the inexpressible, the representable and the unrepresentable, as well as portraying both physical and mental processes. These dualities are represented in my works, which are paradigms for balancing the figurative and the abstract. I would like to symbolise the possible subjective interpretations and perceptions by fragmenting the concrete elements in my works. My themes are mostly psychological and sociological in nature. They tell stories about coping with trauma and projecting emotions. The significance of these are counterbalanced with humour and irony.

I’m interested in the intricate mechanisms, fluidity and extremes of sexuality. I paint portraits of my personal reality by sifting through gender roles from a cultural aspect and the relevant social phenomena in regards to my personal experiences and perspective. I’m portraying the overlaps and differences between my personal and general experiences through the appropriate medium including paintings, installations, performance art and literature.
