In my paintings
I am exploring the relations
of individuals and their surroundings by depicting areas of Budapest
that are part of my past and present. Relating to Jacques Derrida’s Theory of Trace, I express the absence
of presence, by selecting architectural spaces that are usually bustling
with people, and intentionally presenting these scenes empty, isolating them
from reality. I often depict symbolic, well known parts of the city, which are
intertwined not only with the collective memory of our society, but also
with my own personal story. I
am reconstructing spaces concerned with history, balancing between “alienated” spaces
and singular identity, relating to Marc
Augé’s terms of “places” and “non-places”.
