ARTIST STATEMENT

"Hey remember that time when I left a glass of water on the edge of the pool and the wind blew it into the water?"

I sense a newly found authenticity about our current society when observing the chaotic networking and constant search for an identity amongst people.  Explosive and suffocating as it may be at times, training ourselves to listen out for certain subtle tones amongst all is important to keep the rhythm alive, be it fast or slow.  We need to learn to take control and work with time.  Time is the root of the organization of society.   By doing this we can pay attention to smaller details, things that actually really matter such as deciding when one gets bored when doing something, how to keep oneself interested in order to persevere and nurture one’s own energy to be able to approach life and appreciate it in one’s own, individual way.  I am interested in finding ways to share or broadcast to the world my devotion to this pursuit.  Being at art school has encouraged me to create my own space to explore this with confidence.

I would say that I have reduced listening when learning, meaning I focus on the pleasure of listening to the sounds made by someone talking, for example, rather than primarily trying to gain an understanding of the words being said alternatively known as semantic listening.  It is my aim in my work to create a sense of noise that is tuned to a gentle hiss which I am learning sometimes leaves viewers tentative as to how to approach it.

"You remember, it was a windy day and it splashed into the water and submerged into it, and bobbed on the surface for a while, half in the water half out.  I am picking something out of the water and you can’t see it".
