ARTIST STATEMENT

I work like plastic artist since I have use of reason, can that from 15 years. During my formation (artistic and scientific) I understood that the artistic language was allowing myself to put me out to impossible universes that, suitably placed within reach of the spectator, could be considered to be like commendable and therefore interesting.

I use the artistic tools (formal, material) as language of communication, because first of all I think that the art is a magnificent language of transmission of ideas and concepts. For it I use the literary story, the painting and sculpture, the digital tools (photography and video), light and sound, that is to say, any way or technology that allows me to express my ideas to make them understandable, already is to individual title as in multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with other artists, generating what I name " spaces of reflection ".

I am interested in the quantum universe, which in this precise moment we understand as "reality" and the possibility of a visit, though it is only aesthetic, to the possibilities of the multiple universe. I understand that the hypotheses of comprehension of this complex possibility not only have to come from the science, but of the rest of the social actors (as the artists).

I think that this text (from P. Suárez, Spain) defines enough good my current approximation to the concept of the creation:

“In his career, Alfonso Doncel has insisted in approaches which look more like walks through that divisor line between reality – the suspicious truth – and fiction. Using several languages and supports, Doncel does not doubt in using any method or technique which allows the spectator to enter that trance, from which we can only airy left through reflection.

Although in some occasions – not always voluntarily – I let myself go on his trickster personality; and the Universes proposed by Alfonso are, with difference, a thousand times better than the real ones”.

BIOGRAPHY

alfonso doncel (Badajoz, Spain) is a visual artist and designer. Although he describes himself as a painter, throughout his career he has produced sculpture, photography, graphic design, corporate image design, narrative and artistic installations, as well as directed a number of ambitious collaborative projects. He also integrates research activities as part of his artistic design and production.

Originally trained as a sculptor, this visual artist has developed experimental techniques which are as individual as they are distinct, always on the theme of relief on a plain. He combines individual art work with the direction of interdisciplinary projects, carried out in the form of spaces of reflection.

He currently carries out his creative activity in his studio and production company a+i+d (art, investigation & development), working as a visual artist, industrial designer and corporate image designer; he is also a consultant communications director for a number of national and international companies.
