the waves would welcome it beneath the sea (2014) is a poetic retelling of tiny moments captured while traveling to places near and far. Footage is accumulated from the past 5 years and is strung together to form a piece that shows the tension between foreign and familiar patterns throughout the world. One particular sequence shows the top of a green tree swaying in the breeze. This tree could be anywhere in the world, but the sounds that can be heard in the distance are Muslim call to prayers at dusk. The sound thus positions this familiar tree in a place that is foreign to most of us from the West. It is small moments like these that I seek to highlight to show that cross-cultural patterns can connect society on a grander scale.
