    Remembering Substance | 2015 - 2016

Remembering Substance shows time and the effects of the environment, an abstract record of changes. Besides the rationalist approach of observing apparently monotonous and uniform masses, events or processes from a distance, the empirical approach, the observation of happenings from the inside reveals enormous, changeable and non-repetitive content. Neither of the approaches could exist without the other. The work implies both the context of the material and the quest of the effect of time on the material. I have been seeking what is beyond humans, the ephemeral states of the world, and the role of an artist in their preservation, along with the question of preservability and cognoscibility. Wood, as a form, retains its character in all states, though it may appear in an endless number of variations. The sequence may be continued in any direction: roots, branches; or the division of any segment may reveal new information. There is no final stage of readiness. I have chosen the first step of that tangled ramification, the splitting in two, and waiting, preparing for it. The installation aims the cognition of the all-time substance for its own sake. The goal was grasping the phenomenon as an autonomous unit and mapping its interior structure. This work aims to be the model of ’any matter’, the unique stories that visibly appear on them point objectively at the non - recurrent nature of life.
