Wounds is a series of images based on appropriation of family photographs and physical intervention on the original pictures. The delicate action of removing layers in the photographs act with intent to erase the subjectivity of the people portrayed, blending them into shapeless structures, without a defined identity. Unknowable shells, the voids contructed in these images are powerful and defining, as the lift the veil in what lies mitigated or dissmulated in our most primal social and imagetic representations. The absence caused by the removal of the layers in the photograph contributes to the construciton of images not only separated from the originals, but images that manifest – through this indefinition and concealing of identities – strong bonds of affection, gender hierarchizations and power relationships.
