The jonnycakes are composed of found and manipulated industrial foundry waste and exist somewhere between Chinese scholar’s rocks and wadded up dryer lint. The abject forms carry a visual record of the tremendous forces used to shape the material. Pulling from DIY home makeover tips, color is used to transform the steel surface. Bright monochrome pigment plays with perceptions of mass, weight, and volume: individualizing the pieces and preventing them from turning back into just scraps.
