    36 Views of Largo d Batata | 2009 - 2010

The residency proposed here is an elaboration of the themes developed in a art work titled: "36 visões do Largo da Batata ", it's about personal visions made by me, inspired by the prints of Japanese artist Hokusai (1760-1849) titled 36 views of Mount Fuji, from a specific location: the largo da Batata, situated in the west of the city of São Paulo, SP - Brazil. The site is now going through an intense process of redevelopment works on behalf of the São Paulo subway. Whole blocks demolished, evicted families and closed shops. Besides this, because of the potential recovery of land or property speculation, real state developers are buying up the remaining spaces, profoundly changing the profile of the region. This serie was the result of a process of documentation and artistic interpretation of the place, landscape modification from my perceptions, the traces of those transformations, the marks left that show the past and mainly from my memory. The complexity of information changed my perception over the years that I lived and worked in the area.
