The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species - Critically Endangered 2011 | 2011

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species - Critically Endangered 2011 is published on the website http://www.iucnredlist.org/search. I am reading aloud the entire list of threatened species and making a recording. The audio record conveys information about the relationship between man and nature – namely about species which are gradually becoming extinct mostly as a result of man’s behaviour and approach to the environment. For me this is an essential, absolute testimony due to its simple form. The Latin terms are the work of the Swedish scientist Carl Linné who laid the foundations for the modern scheme of binominal nomenclature and is known as the father of modern taxonomy. Because I haven’t studied Latin the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species became for me an abstract list of names and therefore I cannot visualise any animal or plant species, however, I regard it as a complete proof of the state of our flora and fauna on our planet every year. The names we give to animals and plants to classify them and show their uniqueness became for me a current, a long monotonous poem with a clear and significant message concerning each of us. The fact that these species appear on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species turns them in some sort of forerunners of “commemorative plaques” with names of those who we have lost or are slowly losing. On this audio recording is the list of 2011. The project originated in 2012 and is being further developed
