Extract from Czech fields | 2012

I have sown seeds of plants that are typical of Czech agriculture (sunflowers, poppies, barely, wheat, colza) together to form a common statue. The layer of soil above the terrain shows what we usually cannot see. The dimensions of the board container serving as a flowerpot corresponds to the average length of the roots of a sunflower. The appearance of the statue was gradually changing in the period of 150 days, which is the vegetation period of field plants. When the roots grew through the soil forming an entanglement and the process of forming was completed I removed the OSB boards. The soil I used came from the suburb of Prague called Letňany. It was good quality soil from a field which no longer exists because in its place a new complex of residence houses was built. The final appearance of the statue will be documented.
