In the Chair series I examined the possiblities of an object as a building element, using the Thonet chair. At first I tied together identical wooden fragments of a Thonet chair, creating seven variations of one object. In the following phases I produced the chair in plaster, eliminating its formal function. Only the chair symbol remained, its shape became ornamental. By connecting the plaster fragments in various constructions, I achieved the impression of an „expressive Rococco.“ The plaster constructions were up to four metres high, almost producing the impression of collapsing due to their weight. This feeling of fragility resulted from the contrast between the formal function of the chair, and the material from which it was created – plaster. Plaster is mainly seen as a transitional material (with the exception e.g.of works by Hugo Demartini). This is the effect I wanted to achieve, for plaster to be perceived as the final materiál. ............................................................................................................................................. V teto fázi vzniklo sedm variant jednoho objektu.
