    EXCOLO (I, II, III, .....) | 2011 - 2013

Еxcolo is an interactive project in progress (I, II, III, IV...) by Karin Mayr and Martin Sturm, staged in locations that mark transformation in culture. In 2011, it was implemented at a former military air base in Aspern (Vienna), which is due to be regenerated as a residential area. In 2013, Excolo III was staged in San Pedro, California, along a 20-metre-wide sunken seaside promenade, called “The Sunken City”, that has been reclaimed by nature and is now a restricted area where teenagers go to hang out. The word “excolo” means “a soft development” / “the sowing of seeds”. The ruins on Plovdiv’s Nebet Tepeh Hill in Bulgaria, appropriately illustrate the conflict between culture and nature.
