Neural: Cleave (Sound Installation) | 2015

"Neural: Cleave" is a 4-channel audio installation that explores raw emotions, power, and intent conveyed and betrayed by the human voice. A woman, speaking extemporaneously, offers extemporaneous confessions about abusive personal experiences with observations about the cocksure attitudes of those in power. It places people inside a metaphoric mind at work, mimicking synaptic circuitry firing in the brain. One person who heard excerpts said: “it’s like you were in my head—I have these thoughts all the time.” "Neural: Cleave" seeks connection with people in this way. The work’s resonant moments stimulate people to extract their own meanings.
