    Phobias | 2014

Spektrum existujúcich fóbií mi ponúklo inšpiratívnu platformu pre vytvorenie vizuálno-su-reálnych psychologických metafor. Zároveň i slobodu a možnosť posunu k príbuzným obsahovým rovinám, bez rizika straty kontextu. Vizuálna kultúra do veľkej miery udáva rytmus doby. One of the most routine but at the same time most intensive human emotions is fear. A phobia is an over exaggerated form of fear that forces the affected person to avoid common places, objects or situations that are inducing the emotion of fear. The fear itself is often irrational and inadequate to the given situation; it can result in various caricatured or comic manifestations. In that manner, a phobic person isolates him/herself from the outside world. More than working with its narrative image or the exact and in-depth nonvisual elaboration of this problem, I was drawn to the subtle psychological elements, their absurdity and the feelings of certain sinister uneasiness, estrangement and the state of isolation. The spectrum of existing phobias has served me as an inspirational platform for creating the visual surreal psychological metaphors. At the same time, it gave me the freedom to work with similar contents without the risk of losing the context. Using the inscenation I am capturing the world/state of mind/emotion of a dead end situation, of a cyclic state with no escape. The very  rst impulse for this series came from my fascination with sophisticated psychological methods used in some thrillers. Another inspiration was the absurd Theatre of the Grotesque movement that had worked with elements such as paradox, drama or exaggeration, often describing and ironizing the ontological questions of mankind ( Ionesco, Durenmat, Beckett, Jazmina Reza, Jean Paul Sartre, etc.). Another ambition of this work is a reference to the issue of visual image. We live in a world with visual exuberance, there is an enormous pressure on the image and design, and smart visual solutions are becoming an everyday necessity. As a result, the visual culture dictates the rhythm of our era to a large extent. The society perceives the “reality” through the prism of media images. The series Visual Images aims to open a discussion about the illusoriness of our world, a world that wants to be seen as ideal and perfect.
