Artist Looking for Actor to Play Herself in Future Performance | 2014

Focusing on the elements of my practice that explored theatricality within the context of the gallery space and the exhibition framework, and as well as exploring the link between fact and fiction, reality and its representation. I had decided to try to find a fictional construct of myself, but not just myself, myself as the artist. The title of the work is taken from an advertisement posted on a casting website. Applicants were given a list of character descriptions (acquired from a fortune reading with the artist) and asked to create a character based only on this. They were then invited to audition in front of a panel of expert judges, all of who have featured in my work previously. The actors never knowingly met with the artist and so created fictional constructs of the character of Naomi Fitzsimmons based on the character details and their own understanding of what an artist is. The actors were all auditioning to play the character of Naomi Fitzsimmons in a live performance on 2nd May 2014 at an exhibition in Southampton. The actor chosen to play Naomi Fitzsimmons was then invited down to the exhibition and asked to play this role at the private view. They were asked to engage with people and talk about 'their' work throughout the duration of this event. .
