This is a documentation of the interactive performance for my Translations exhibition. The performance depended on an audience, so I believe its documentation was very much in that moment. The piece explores and embraces the theatricality of the quotidian and the artist’s relationship to the audience. For the performance, I was sat outside the exhibition space and was typing about the audience as the entered and exited the gallery. I considered the gallery space a stage and so the descriptions acted like character descriptions and stage descriptions for the night of the private view. These written descriptions were then projected live onto a music stand in front of an opera singer who would sing them live as they were typed. The style of singing was dependent on what was written and he was asked to vary the style and melody he sang in. This piece was influenced mostly by Brechtian theory and Augustos Boal's term 'Spectactor'.
