Zip the Lip and Sleep | 2019

2019, solo show, City Surfer Office, Prague //// I don’t really know what I can do, but I know this bus can take me home. I don’t know how long I can stay there, but I call it home anyway. It was the time of the year when you can meet people in bermuda shorts or mountain gear at the same place. The time of the year when you start to feel tired after waking up even though you went to sleep before midnight. First snow in the city. Someone is paralyzed because of their old knees or their new sneakers. Sound spreads differently under the thin snow blanket. Breath in, breath out. You can feel the silence in your lungs. Counting silently that you are one year older again. It makes me feel like New Year’s more than fireworks could do. Back home. Unfreezing my fingers with my breath. Smell of coffee and yesterday’s dinner. Empty fridge. Card declined. Empty fridge, last cigarette. Sipping the coffee while listening to the fridge. Feels like when my cat purrs. Makes me sleepy as well. I want to feel your skin. To smell your neck. To inhale your breath. To touch your hair. To have your keys. To sweat your bedsheets. To wash your dishes. I let myself fall down between the cushions while realizing one of them was my cat. No connection. Little heart-attack. ‘'So how was your day?’’ the cat asked. ‘‘Not good not bad. As usual.’’ I replied without even thinking. ‘‘And what is your plan for tonight?’’ asked the cat while trying to find the best spot to lay down. ‘‘No plans, I’m staying home.’’ I answered from under the bed where I was trying to restart the internet router for the eight time. ‘‘But its Friday, isn’t it?’’, ‘‘Yes, but I want to stay home with you’’ I lied awkwardly and stayed out of her sight for another second. The cat seemed satisfied with my answer and finally took a position of a fluffy rounded pillow. When your wifi stops working for a few days you realize that home means the internet. The cat was breathing silently which tells she wasn’t really sleeping, but she doesn’t seemed to be interested in being my company. Zip the lip and sleep. Zip the lip and sleep. Zip the lip and sleep. Zip the lip and sleep. Zip the lip and sleep. I started to search for my last season winter boots. They were still covered with a layer of last season’s mud. I put them on, then off and back to the wardrobe, ‘cause I’ll stay in bed tonight anyway. Reconnected. A hamster sharing a strawberry with a turtle. A turtle riding on a duck. A duck cuddling with a girl. Ginger siblings unwrapping a box with a golden retriever inside. A dachshund chasing a lion. A tiger acting like a domesticated cat. My cat liked that one.
