Snakes on Skates The motive of the snake is very often present in Barbora Fastrová and Johana Pošová art projects. The rumor has it, that what brought them to collaborate in for the first time in 2014 was very similar experience from the Amazon rainforest. Although they visited different parts different times, they both encountered a big wild snake. Their friendship and their joined art work is based on elaborating their experiences from places where human has no control over the nature and where all animals are equal. Ever since then their friendship and art grows together and takes on many different visual forms, but the snake is always there, as the symbol of everything they are trying to encompass in their work. (Historically, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. The ouroboros is a symbol of eternity and continual renewal of life.) Blending symbols of natural force and symbols of modern society is for Johana and Barbora a permanent approach to sculpture. For even longer time they've been putting wheels on most of their objects. It was only natural that skateboard appeared as part of their work. Project Snakes on Skates was made for a venue Sculptures in video organized by studio Prototyp. Already when Johana and Barbora started working on the project, they focused not only on the enjoyment from the paper mache on wheels taking over the street but they wanted Martin Zvěřina to make a video of it. The video style is inspired by extreme sport videos as well as the intimate atmosphere of home videos.
