Mr.Fruitie

  • 2018
  • Video, Film
  • 70 min, 5 sec

  • A series of rituals/performances. Narrative aspect of the film is hidden in the logical continuity of those. The theme of absolute nonsence in deterministic universe is (under the mask of Mr.Fruitie) simplified just to experience of death and birth.

    Mr.Fruitie | 2018

Usually, I do not use the art therapy as the art-to-exhibit, however in this case it worked for me. A psycho-spiritual crisis nearly killed me and Mr. Fruitie saved me. I did not solve “the nonsense paradox” but at least I expanded upon it, as it is actually the main axis of my whole work. I avoided learning anything about rituals from any traditions and just invented my own. I died in the process of birth at the start and was born through death at the end. Later, I found that similar rituals have existed already. Anyway, the intention to be “original” would be stupid in this field of experience. I remember that we tried to climb a certain mountain (Keprník in Jeseníky mountains) three times for one ritual piece. Twice we were able to walk for approximately five kilometres in the snow then we got stuck in a snow storm through the course of the whole night. There was no way forward and no way back. I did not use the intended footage, instead I used a different one: The one with the touch of death. We really could have died there if not for the warmth of fire. The two of us worked hard to keep a fire burning. It was like swimming in a snowy ocean all night. It was beautiful. Swimming in the lake of clay was even more uncomfortable than crawling naked in the snow. Especially, when I finally got up from the slippery entrance of the cave to sunlight where the clay solidified. I was born once again when peeling it off my body in a depilation ritual (this footage is not presented in the film). The most frightening experience of the cold took place when I was bathing in the stream where I passed out twice. At that time, I started to believe the prenatal theories of Stanislav Groff because my own feelings helped to remind me of physical memories from the womb. The birth and the death are so close to each other. Also, there are some aspects that are unclear in the footage. For example, the grey eyes of Mr. Fruitie in some parts of the movie are covered by Lcd foil that causes the view from behind the mask to appear psychedelic-like. I saw the reality through double vision with rainbow edges and not a single one of these alternative realities was in the place where it was supposed to be. This causes a really dangerous situations while crawling in the forest and through the rocks. If the camerawoman was not there I could have died a few times. Everything seems to be possible behind such sight. The monologue at the end of the film: There was a strong wind around, so my sound recorder was hidden in my camera bag. Because it was hidden it cannot be heard that the recording is not just a monologue but a dialogue with the wild deer in the valley. We used a very similar language and it seemed that we understood each other. Maybe I´m alone in this kind of understanding of the Mr. Fruitie character but I take him as the superhero with super-ability: To be born and to die.
