STUBEL GALLERY, SOFIA (BG)
The three artists gather to present some of their latest works in Stubel
Gallery, Sofia. You will not be able to find a collective theme or
concept among them; there are no conditions nor advance agreements. Each
of the artists works at the extremes of conventional painting,
experimenting and exploring, and that is the link between them. In each
one’s paintings we will see a unique slice, a dissection, of the form on
which they are working. Regardless of whether it is an object, an urban
landscape, or a body, the artists unfold the form, they draw it, carve
it or fill it in. They use it as a template and as text, as background
and anatomy, they change the point of view. That is how they create
tension and interest in their works. This is what the artists say about
their works:
ALEXANDER VALCHEV: I find beauty in the simple things, those that other people ignore. I combine them, arrange them and fine tune them. At the end, I have abstract compositions, where the starting material has lost its initial practical purpose and has received a new aesthetic function.
IVO BISTRICHKI: Body metaphysics Small body organs with unclear function, elements and bonding mechanisms, big hearts. Words, texts, punctuation and news particles, lines and semicircles. Lasting memories, nostalgia, black holes, pieces of happiness, and a little bit of love.
SLAV NEDEV: The series Post-urbanistic visions looks beyond our current, highly urban, industrial society and envisages a future state where people are absent, and only remnants of their activities (mostly architectural) and shadowy silhouettes remind us of bustling city life. Nature gradually regains ground it has been deprived of, and life – opposed to glass and concrete – begins again.
