The Identity of Photography

(2009-2011)

KOBRO GALLERY, STRZEMIŃSKI ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS, ŁÓDŹ (PL)

Ola Buczkowska, Maria Dmitruk, Paweł Kula, Dominika Sadowska, Grzegorz Przyborek

The fundamental idea of The Identity of Photography exhibition is to emphasise the active and creative relation between the author, the medium and the motif which is photographed. This exhibition presents the approaches of five artists, whose photographs or other photo-related works radiate with strong expression of form. Photography can be a medium which, apart from just transmitting information, is also a kind of a mechanism which reveals the identity of the author. What most interests me about photography is how it is possible to see the world anew, and how we can talk about it, always in different ways, thanks to the revelatory vision of the artist.

In The Identity of Photography exhibition, the presented artists share one feature - they all care for the image and its form. Their photographs have a content which is hidden, symbolic and multivalent, left for the spectator's interpretation. Their style is not subject to any fashion. Each artist presents a different, individual manner of interpreting the world, as the identity of photography is based on freedom and unconventionality of creation.
