LAGE EGAL, BERLIN (DE)
ZÖNOTÉKA’s first off site presentation expands the last syllable of its name derived from the shelf into a realm of associations on the basic functions of this everyday object, namely to preserve, to store and to present (BEWAHREN SPEICHERN PRÄSENTIEREN). Thinking in these multi-functional terms, a metaphorical shelf may hold 'things' that are personal or valuable based on societal norms; they preserve feelings, objects, traditions, ideologies or even utopias.
Each artistic contribution in the exhibition on view at LAGE EGAL opens up a nexus of keeping and protecting, be it the post-war metaphor and function of concrete bunkers, the architectural elements framing a storage or presentation situation, the retro-futuristic legacy of Archigramm or the very personal experience of being constantly on the move.
BEWAHREN SPEICHERN PRÄSENTIEREN openly refers to the basic tasks of modern time museums (to collect, to preserve, to study and to exhibit) juxtaposing its means with the quest of a developing project space that tries to find its own definition within the scopes of the artistically overcharged city of Berlin.
ZÖNOTÉKA emerges as a place where the inside and outside, the frame and content, the preservation, storage and presentation all blend into a joint statement.
