ALTÁN KLAMOVKA GALLERY, PRAGUE (CZ)
Jana Bernartová graduated from Stanislav Zippe‘s Studio of Visual Communication – Digital Media at the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec where she now teaches. She also studied at Václav Stratil’s Studio of Intermedia at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Brno University of Technology. She completed her doctorate studies at Federico Díaze’s Studio of Supermedia of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Her artwork examines changes in formats and forms over time, where new technologies, which also influence contemporary art, keep rapidly developing. The main theme is how we can observe the transformation of basic visual elements, such as color, structure, area, etc., on the background of these changes. The author’s artwork is focused on actual media that change the typical perception of art. The seemingly visually austere artwork brings up many questions aimed at analyzing the present that we consider post-Internet art.
The exhibition Default Settings in the Altán Klamovka Gallery tests the possibilities of interpreting the digital color. The author chose a clear blue color of the RGB color spectrum (R0G0B255) that is global and standardized. Yet, each medium (the screen of a tablet, mobile phone and monitor) displays it differently. The different shades of the blue color are a result of the type and quality of a displaying device. The actual color, which we do not usually notice, will play the main role at the exhibition, and what has been so far invisible will become visible. The exhibition will thus show an endless chart of color “incarnations.”
