ARTIST STATEMENT

For me art and filmmaking is a study of human nature. 

I see the world in images and admire the skill to simplify complex issues with works of art. I am interested in the truth. What is it, Who's truth is it, and how we can manipulate it with images, sounds and beliefs.

My goal with my works is to question, connect and create understanding sometimes via confusion or humour. To create emotions for audience and myself to be able to feel, participate and belong.


BIOGRAPHY

Pauliina Punkki has a Master of Art degree from University of Art and Design, Helsinki, Finland.

Before film studies she got a degree in media and worked for Television News and radio. In her own award-winning short films she has used different kind of techniques and material sources from animation to archives.

Pauliina Punkki has been teaching editing and script writing at Aalto University MediaLab and her own course The Essence of Edit, in Kathmandu, Nepal among others. She has worked as a filmmaker and film editor in Sweden, France, Switzerland, Germany, India, Nepal and USA.
