Barockjuwel In Schwarz und Rot | 2017

"Barockjuwel in schwarz und rot" is a phrase from the guide to the sights in Ostrov nad Ohří. Used German language brings a typical context of the Czech - German borderland. The installation of Šárka Koudelová combines the local historical context with the contemporary image. In the local famous black-and-red chapel, we find the pilgrim statue of the Black Virgin Mary, who once helped the local aristocratic lady, or better to say, her six year old son, who finally started talking. The audio track in the installation, coming from an undefined location, reproduces the original guide text that is read with hard problems by a boyish voice. The boy souns like he started to speak yesterday. The hand of the black madonna, which floats in the space like by magic, glitters with a diamond ring. A diamond ring the staue originally wore, has been stolen by the nazis.
